Military and Admiralty poison bottles are instantly recognisable as they have an upward pointing arrow on them.  This is called a government acceptance mark.  It is strange to think that at this point in time aeroplanes had not been invented....and hence only Military and Admiralty!!  They come in 2 designs square and hexagonal and are always cobalt blue in colour.  There is one known recorded green example.  The hexagonal design always on the 2oz version has the word "POISON" embossed horizontally across the 3 front panels, 2 letters on each panel.  On the central panel above the "IS" is always an upward pointing arrow.  Other sizes have the arrow below the "IS".  The square versions always have an "N" below an arrow separating the size eg "2" and the "oz" on the front of the bottle.

The wording on the bottle above is as follows:

Version:  hexagonal version, with ground glass stopper.

Front 3 panels:  "PO", "IS", "ON" with arrow above the "IS"

Back:  3 consecutive ribbed panels

Bottom:  blank
