EARLY BERKSHIRE GINGER BEER BOTTLES
Ryott - Newbury
Martin Tanner has 2 important fragments of Ryott's Chemist bottles. The second of these in particular looks to be of a ginger beer bottle and just reads "RYOTT". The former reads "R A RYOTT, Chemist, NEWBURY" and could be a stout bottle but is difficult to be sure. Apologies for the lack of quality of these 2 pictures.

Although Ryott's as a chemist were around for a long period it is difficult to ascertain when the 2 bottle fragments are from. The first fragment (without the top) is difficult to say for definite that it is a ginger beer bottle. It tends to be porter bottles that have the word "chemist" on them generally from my experience. The second fragment is a ginger beer but the 'blob' top looks perhaps post-second industrial revolution perhaps around 1870 but could date from just before in my opinion.
